Are you a pastor, lay leader, or ministry leader?

Leading a church is completely different than it was twenty years ago. You still want to make a bigger impact in your community, with greater engagement by more families.

You probably already know that the world around us has changed. The community has changed. Our church has changed.

You need a new way to lead into change in a changing world.

So I'll spare you the spiel.

No need to be a broken record and convince you of something that's already on your mind every day.

After all, you probably already KNOW that a healthy, engaged leadership culture, where your teams work together to execute your vision, is the key tipping point to unleash creativity, experience greater focus, deliver on your backlog of ideas, impact more families, and engage greater numbers of people in your mission.

You've probably also heard that only 4 in 10 Americans are actively engaged with a church family, making your mission even more important than ever.

HERE'S WHAT YOU

MIGHT NOT KNOW

Even if you are lucky enough to have great people on your team, who care deeply, work hard and commit to what they can, as they can... by developing a healthy, engaged leadership culture ...

YOUR CHURCH CAN:

  • Shift Focus from Operational to Inspirational

Imagine experiencing a healthy, engaged leadership culture in which all your resources and energy are aligned toward mission and strategy. No more last second scrambling.
  • Create a Leadership Culture

Dealing with urgency - solving for the immediate - can often block you from putting leadership skills to work. What will it look like when everyone is leading, and no one is looking to the pastor for constant direction? As your leaders invest their skills, time and energy into developing others, there is exponential opportunity for community connection and engagement, freeing up staff for even more!
  • Seek Opportunity Instead of Seeing Limitations

This leads to all kinds of exciting and unexpected stories of life change, adding more to the connections and impact of your church in the community!
  • Become Strategic, Not Reactive

Create new pathways of engagement at the personal level, in the church and in the community. Craft plans and set goals that can be executed with the team at hand while developing leaders for the accomplishments yet to come! Learn how to incorporate this into your organizational DNA.
  • Confidently Lead into CHANGE!

We know we need to change. We know we need to do something different because doing what we've always done won't lead to something new. We need a new way to engage. A new way to lead. New questions to ask. But knowing what to do is rarely the issue. It's knowing how to do it that trips us up as leaders. Predictably and sustainably experience renewed engagement through a healthy leadership culture! Gain the freedom to meet the needs of your community and the bandwidth for your staff to be ready for what's next!

Even though the reasons to create a healthy, engaged leadership culture are a complete no-brainer, the process involved in actually creating it is anything but.

Create a Leadership Culture? Awesome.

But where the heck do we start!?

Perhaps in your most ambitious moments you’ve made the commitment to start.

You have written down ideas, read the blogs, studied the books, listened to the podcasts. You’ve considered the results you could accomplish and dreamed of what it could be like, maybe even shared the thoughts with a few close confidants.

If you're super committed, maybe you even invested in a conference for yourself and maybe even with some members of your team, assuring yourself that you’d put the inspiration to use in the mystical (yet elusive) "someday".

But with even the best intentions, most leaders end up abandoning the notion, not because of lack of vision, but because of the realities of today. All while wondering how others somehow find a way to pull it off.

Here’s why even the most committed pastors abandon the effort:

Without a super clear, step-by-step project plan, that everybody on the team is part of, together, the most well-intentioned church leaders get completely lost.

They fall victim to paralyzing pushback and scheduling hang-ups (the stories we read always make it sound SO easy), a time-sucking sticking point, or lack of clarity over exactly HOW to move forward (knowledge isn’t the issue – execution is).

Here’s why this can be irreversibly crippling:

As an already busy (overwhelmed?) pastor or ministry leader with people to serve, needs to meet, teams to lead and not to mention a family to care for, you literally can’t afford another detour and veer off course.

And the moment you get lost in your strategy and executing your vision, it’s incredibly difficult to recover.

Therefore, committing to developing a healthy, engaged leadership culture - where everyone is leading on their own and not constantly looking to you for direction - is one of the few things in your church that you NEED to get right the first time.

And luckily for you, your team, the people you serve and the community you want to impact are READY to engage more deeply.

In all likelihood, churches all around yours are hunkered down, in quasi-survival mode. Sadly, many no longer have the energy to consider what could be beyond their own four walls.

Which means …

Even if you are just getting started on re-focusing on your plan (vs. just getting through the day-to-day operations), there is a golden opportunity to transform your community by activating a healthy, engaged leadership culture in your church.

That is … if you can avoid the same mistakes – or paralysis – that so many other church leaders fall victim to.

THE 4 REASONS

So Many Churches Struggle to Engage People and Impact their Community (the Way They Know They Could)

(and how to ensure your church will succeed)

Reason 1

EVERYONE IS ALREADY SO BUSY

(or worse, we make excuses for the people we don't even know, yet want to attract and impact)

People say they will volunteer, and then they have to step out last second. They are busy with kids, sports, work. Life.

Relying on volunteers is risky, when what we already do sometimes feels overwhelming.

How can we focus on attracting and engaging new people when we barely get all the pieces in place for the next Sunday morning on time? With our resources stretched, how do we add more to our plate, even though we know we need to?

These are just some of the MANY questions you'll have to answer along the way.

Building up a pipeline of committed volunteers - and leaders - seems daunting and out of reach. Most church leaders say they've tried, but it feels like just another "thing to do or learn" or "problem to solve".

The thing is, you can't treat engaging your community as just another "tactic" or bullet point on the strategic plan.

It's an immensely valuable (and fragile) process and culture shift that, when done right, can change the trajectory of your church's impact on the community you serve.

Yes. People are busy. It's part of our culture. But this, too, can be addressed.

The 80/20 rule is 94/6 in church! Establishing a healthy, engaged leadership culture isn't particularly hard or complicated. But there are MANY moving pieces and potential failure points along the way. Approach this accordingly.

People want to be engaged in relationship with your church!

Reason 2

IT IS NOT A PRIORITY

(and how can we take on one more program, anyway!?)

Look, we get it. Churches are filled with good people trying to solve problems in their community. You are there to share the Good News, serve those in need and make a difference in peoples' lives!

The thing is, because of this, everything is a good idea in the church.

And for so many churches, these great ideas fall onto the laps of already-stretched-thin paid staff to execute. When this happens, resources get strained, involvement thins out and results decline.

Impact declines.

Engagement becomes elusive.

The very needs we seek to address become a barrier to connection.

But it can be different. When we gain clarity on priorities - your unique mission in your community - we can begin to say 'no' to otherwise good ideas. Gaining ground on the vision. Rallying resources, improving involvement, impact, connection and engagement!

We know that being all things to all people makes it difficult to be on mission. Giving permission to prioritize solves this challenge.

Reason 3

WE AREN'T STRATEGIC

(and why we must be)

The God of the bible is intentional ... Yet strategy is rarely taught outside the business community. All organizations, including churches, need to create a plan and execute it accordingly. Although it is true the church must react to its community's needs, that too should be strategic.

So - how do we behave strategically when strategy is (usually) not taught to church leaders?

Most churches are so busy, with resources already very constrained, that 1.) learning how to be strategic, and 2.) executing a strategic plan, seem like farway, quasi-luxuries.

Here's the irony...

It may not seem so, but operating without a strategy, and moving forward on a day-to-day and week-to-week basis in the absence of clear plans (integrated across ministry functions) makes life considerably more challenging for churches.

The problems we want to address become compounded by every new problem that comes along. Creating confusion and overwhelm. And a sadness that makes us feel like we just aren't doing enough.

But this can be turned around, quickly. A few simple steps will get everyone on the same page. Allowing the team to be empowered to drive forward in mission. Measuring life-change and other metrics differently than before. And giving permission to your team and volunteers to truly elevate your emphasis on a few, key, strategic strengths for your community. Knowing how to craft a plan, that you can execute and measure is life-changing for your entire team!

Reason 4

CHANGE IS DIFFICULT - WE DON'T KNOW HOW

(we consume books, blogs, podcasts and conferences ... we know what to do - we just don't know how)

Change is everywhere. Sometimes it's unwanted. You didn't see it coming. You don't want it.

Sometimes it's needed, but you're unsure of how to get there.

You know you can't stay where you are, though. You can't stay the same.

How do you build a team that can execute (rather than react to) change?

Building teams is hard enough. Building teams that execute change is even harder.

So many churches deliver ministry in silos. Worship. Preaching. Pastoral care. Children. Youth. Families.

All are parts of the whole of the church, yet so often they become siloed in their approach to "doing" church.

We need to transform:

» People into Teams

» Stuff to Do into Plans that get Executed

» Reacting into Leading into Change

However it looks in your context, most churches want to see greater impact and life-change, increased engagement by those already connected, and to establish a relationship with those who are not yet part of the church community.

Reminiscing about the 'good old days' and hoping things will turn around, won't improve your situation.

When things are not going the way we want, we can't keep doing the same things we've always done.

We need to change.

But how? By changing the metrics, investing in people (over programs), measuring community engagement (vs. attendance) and aligning our teams around common goals.

Subtle shifts in your culture will help bring the change that is needed.

I want to let you in on Something VERY Important…

Even though there is a MASSIVE amount of information claiming to have the golden key for churches to address the challenges of a changing and increasingly secular culture – it’s not an easy to reach goal.

A few churches will be positioned just right – geographically, resource-wise, or both – to take advantage of these ideas and approaches.

Others will dive in and then quickly fizzle out once the initial inspiration wears out.

And the main reason for this, as you have likely seen by now, is that while the barriers to new ideas (the “what”) are relatively LOW… … the barriers toward EFFECTIVE EXECUTION (the “how”) are fairly high.

But as long as you can avoid the biggest blunders that sink most church teams, the path is paved for you to accomplishing the strategic elements of your plan!

A pathway toward more time for you and your teams to reach people, transform lives and truly live into your vision and mission, experiencing greater impact and engagement in your community.

The key ingredient to all of this is ALIGNMENT in your teams, common skills and language, and a shift toward a healthy, engaged leadership culture.

And with your permission, that is what I’d LOVE to show you how to achieve.

"What I enjoy is the every day practicality of ALIGNMENT. It is not just theories, ideas or another cookie-cutter model. It is organic in nature. It inspires and challenges us to discover what our distinctiveness is to and for the work of the Kingdom. ALIGNMENT gives us all these ideas and they actually work! What do we do with success?"

ANGELA A. PLEASANTS, DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT

"I can say without a doubt that ALIGNMENT is the best I've ever been around. Not only would our team not be what it is today without it, many of our churches would not be nearly as effective in their impact if it weren't for ALIGNMENT's influence."

DAVE FERGUSON, LEAD PASTOR

The Complete A to Z

Live-Streamed
Team Training and Coaching Cohort

Align Your Team
So You Can Fully Engage and Impact Your Community

I've taken everything I've learned from more than two decades as a church planter, senior pastor, director of training and coaching for an international church-planting organization, and now for the past 10+ years as a church leadership and strategy consultant (serving hundreds of churches from Europe to all over the continental US to Alaska and to Asia, across multiple denominations and non-denominational church cultures) and channeled it into a comprehensive, step-by-step implementation program that not only teaches you the high level theory, but the actual EXECUTION of how you can confidently lead into change, aligning your people to make the biggest impact, engaging even more people in your community.

Yes, you will learn the strategies behind everything you do, but more importantly, you will have a meticulous, step-by-step project plan that leaves nothing out and takes nothing for granted as you implement it.

The end result: We literally WALK ALONGSIDE YOU and coach you through creating and executing YOUR OWN PLAN in YOUR CONTEXT through these live-streamed group training and coaching sessions.

ALIGNMENT

is the ONLY FULL-YEAR ONLINE Live-Streamed Team Training and Coaching Cohort program of its kind that…

Is designed with busy church leaders and volunteers in mind.
No complex changes to your process. No unnecessary time-fillers that promise amazing results, but do nothing but leave you confused and overwhelmed and sabotage your progress. And most importantly: we train your WHOLE TEAM without having to spend time, and money to travel to a conference!

Re-prioritizes engagement without adding to your plate.
When everyone is clear on the vision and how they play a measurable part of achieving it, saying "no" to otherwise good ideas becomes much easier and the reasons why more obvious. Freeing up time for you and your teams to be more focused on priorities.

Solves a practical challenge: you create your own strategic plan, and we help you execute it.
What better way to learn strategy than by having your entire team engaged in crafting the plan, and executing it together. Finally, no more 'theory' - we reinforce the why, but more importantly, we help you learn (and retain) HOW. With direct impact, personalized to your context.

Leads you confidently into CHANGE (the number one issue all teams struggle with).
Nearly everyone understands that accomplishing different results requires doing something new. But how? We not only show you how, you will learn to lead differently. Forever.

Here's how we'll help you get here:

ALIGNMENT: Module 1

Creating Your Leadership Culture for Today

When it Comes to Leadership, Culture is Everything.

Culture can be what compels a church toward mission. Or it can be what keeps a church passive. Stagnant.

Vision is important. Strategies are important.

But your Church Culture is the key to move forward with confidence and experience the greatest level of engagement and impact in your community.

Here, you will set your goals, craft a plan and begin to make the subtle shifts in your culture that lead you toward this breakthrough mindset.

Even if you have never crafted a strategic plan, or executed according to one before, this module will break down the steps so you will finally feel confident - as a team - about how to move forward, together.

Module Highlights:

  • Identify the Culture Villains that hold back the best for your team.
  • Learn what culture consists of: Values (what's most important), Narrative (the stories we tell) and Behaviors (the actions we take) and how to align all three.
  • Implement the 7-step Leadership Culture Framework that we have developed and perfected over 25 years.
  • Develop and begin to implement your own unique, custom plan. We walk alongside you to help ensure success.
ALIGNMENT: Module 2

Developing Lifelong Leaders and Disciples

One of the most important shifts in your culture will be to make a commitment to invest in people, through apprenticing and mentoring.

Right now, the majority of churches seek out volunteers to run programs. In almost every case, the hope is their involvement will encourage deeper connection with the mission.

The challenge here is that hope is not a strategy. We need a plan. And the way to life-change comes first through connection - relationship. Programs are important, and we need people to run (and participate in) programs. But when we prioritize individual relationships and life-change over programs, everyone wins.

In this module, we build on the plan you crafted, and drive into the 'how' of relational investing which develops leaders and disciples.

When we begin to raise up leaders, the capacity and energy shifts from "getting things done" to driving impact and engagement!

Module Highlights:

  • Complete, 360 degree overview of the Value of Apprenticeship: People are Brilliant, People over Programs, Leaders who develop leaders who develop leaders. We guide you through every step needed to build your Leadership Pipeline.
  • The step-by-step simple yet powerful strategy of creating a Leadership Development Culture
  • How to immediately gain buy-in and trust from others and help them develop their leadership skills
  • Alignment, collaboration, common skills and language to develop leaders, accomplish your mission and impact your community
ALIGNMENT: Module 3

Building Teams that Execute Change

By now, you know how to identify and impact your culture. You're moving forward on your plan. You're investing in leaders and disciples.

But ... change is HARD!

Yet leading into change is one of the greatest opportunities we have as leaders.

In this module, we show you how to coach leaders into embracing the need to change, how to help people accept and welcome change as part of your plan, and how equip your people to lead together, as a team. Building a team that executes change can create significant impact and engagement in your community.

Module Highlights:

  • Learn the skills and actions to take that will increase people's trust in you as a leader, and welcome (rather than resist) change

  • Implement the "Keys to Building and Maximizing Great Teams"
  • Build Your Own Team Action-Learning Plan to Execute Change
ALIGNMENT: Module 4

Learning... to Lead Differently

You have a well-defined Leadership Culture. You are investing in people, increasing your leadership pipeline, leading into change.

You are IMPACTING your Community. You are ENGAGING new families and people in new and amazing ways.

Now what!? What do we do now? We need to keep challenging ourselves, and each other, to learn and lead differently.

One of the most exciting outcomes of this subtle, but important shift in your culture, is in how your leadership team is freed up to lead, be strategic and expand ministry pro-actively (no longer primarily reacting to situations).

Responding to this opportunity requires learning new, different leadership skills.

In this module, you will learn important INDIVIDUAL and CORPORATE skills to create an Aligned Leadership Team and a Healthy, Engaged Culture.

Module Highlights:

  • Develop personal leadership proficiency and establish skills to lead with confidence into the future

  • Establish team and church-wide training objectives to keep ahead of our changing post-church world

  • Craft new engagement and success metrics and learn to drive results accordingly

WHAT OTHERS HAVE ASKED

Eventually the boat will end up somewhere. But everyone will be exhausted and confused. ALIGNMENT helps your team get together, build a plan and drive forward, together. You will spend LESS TIME achieving MORE IMPACT and GREATER ENGAGEMENT in your community!

If you find yourself nodding along with any of the following, then you are in a perfect position to enroll in ALIGNMENT. Start today to regain TIME, create greater IMPACT and increased ENGAGEMENT in your community!

  1. You KNOW that getting your team - both staff and key volunteer leaders - aligned and on the same page is a critical move, one that will create more freedom, impact and engagement, but you have run into false starts every time you've tried to do it
  2. You're ready to roll up your sleeves and do the work, together as a team. In fact, you're totally excited to put in the time, knowing that every action you take brings you one step closer to creating greater impact in your community and freeing up more time to work on - and not solely in - your ministry.
  3. You look forward to having a bit of fun every now and then - and welcome the opportunity to engage with a passionate community of like-minded ministry leaders.
  4. You are ready to build a team-inspired strategy with a plan that can be executed, together. You love the idea of getting a little help to get moving, but know the challenge to keep going is rewarded by the amazing stories of engagement and life change that will come from it.
  5. You feel strongly that your already hard-working team needs a break from struggling with sideways energy and know that when you all 'row together' the outcomes will be truly awesome.
  6. Your team is excited to learn and implement together - rather than have content relayed from a conference attended by only a few people.
  7. Your resources are limited, so engaging in a real-time, action-driven course in your own context will accomplish great things without putting peoples' time, and your church's finances in jeopardy.
  8. You know that your culture is strong and ready to become a healthy, engaged leadership environment.
  9. Leading into change - instead of reacting to it - is something you have dreamed of and now you are ready to drive forward!

If you said "yes" to at least 6 of the above, I can't wait to meet you inside ALIGNMENT!
